In the mid 1940's the Toresco family first ventured into the automobile business with its first location, Dom's Auto Sales. In 1964, Donald Toresco opened his first dealership in North Plainfield, Jersey. As a used car dealership, Somerset Motors quickly grew to be a very well known and respected dealership. Then in 1968, Mr. Toresco needed to expand his dealership and opened North Plainfield Dodge, offering both new and used vehicles to the community.
By 1975, the store had been reborn as Dodgeland, the largest Chrysler Corporation dealership in the country. Mr. Toresco was, at this time, dreaming of creating an "automall", a single location that would conveniently offer his customers a variety of makes and models while still maintaining a personalized and professional atmosphere. In the early 1980's, Mr. Toresco had purchased Autoland's current location - 26 acres of land on Route 22 East in Springfield, New Jersey and began construction of the world's first automall. Mr. Toresco had successfully created a single location where customers could chose between Toyota, Scion, Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep products in a comfortable environment.
Autoland and Mr. Toresco have long been pioneers in the automotive industry. In addition to the automall concept, Mr. Toresco's Dodgeland was one of the first dealerships in the Northeast to implement a computerized finance system, enabling bank contracts and paperwork to be electronically stored and printed. Mr. Toresco and Autoland have long worked with dealership computer systems as well as manufacturers to improve the consumer's purchasing experience and assist in revolutionizing the automobile industry.
Autoland is, to this day, still owned and operated by Mr. Toresco and his family. Their goal is to provide each customer with a quality product while maintaining the number one goal of customer satisfaction. Autoland and Mr. Toresco have achieved numerous awards and honors from manufacturers, vendors, and the community and is most proud of being recognized as one of the first dealers to implement an extensive employee assistance program, managed by a certified therapist and counselor, realizing that the health and well being of his employees has a direct impact on the customer experience.
Autoland and Mr. Toresco go beyond providing our customers with great vehicles at excellent prices. Mr. Toresco has been active in a variety of community and charity organizations, including Chairman of the ADA - Dealers for Diabetes Program, the Dodge Open Charity Classic golf tournament, Toys for Tots, a board member of the DARE program, and Deborah Hospital. He also has a very long standing commitment to and is a supporter of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Good News Home for Women, a non-profit organization which supports women that have become victims of substance abuse, the 200 Club of Union County for families of police and firefighters, as well as a major contributor to the G & P Foundation.
